The Children’s Liturgy of the Word ministry provides a liturgical adaptation of the weekly readings for the pre-adolescent child. At MMR, the Children’s Liturgy of the Word is available most Sundays during the 10:45 a.m. Mass. The program is based on the Children Celebrate! Liturgy of the Word with Children program from Pflaum Publishing Group.
The children join their family at Mass initially, and are invited to the special children’s liturgy after the opening prayer. Upon dismissal from the assembly, the children gather in our Religious Education classrooms and listen to the readings from the Lectionary for Masses with Children, which follow the same theme as the Sunday Mass. The volunteer teams provide a gathering, opening prayer, first and second readings, the Gospel and a reflection on the readings in age-appropriate language. The children rejoin their families at Mass during the Offertory.
The ministry is composed of 9 teams of volunteer instructors and an administrative group. Each team is responsible for the Sunday service approximately every 3 weeks.
