A Blue Ribbon School of Excellence

“Blue Ribbon Schools are models of improved student achievement from which others can take inspiration.”  U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan

Mary, Mother of the Redeemer School is distinguished as one of  254 public and 50 private schools from the fifty United States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico receiving the designation of a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2010.

The Blue Ribbon Program, an effort on the part of the U.S. Department of Education to identify best school leadership and best teaching practices, sets a standard of excellence for all schools striving for the highest level of achievement.  Each year since 1982, the U.S. Department of Education has sought out schools where students attain and maintain high academic goals.

This achievement designates Mary, Mother of the Redeemer School as a model for other schools throughout the nation.

A total of 413 schools can be nominated for the award.  This includes 50 nominations from CAPE, Council for Private Education, under which MMR was chosen.

Once nominated, MMR completed an application that focused on our school’s academic achievements, research based instructional programs, and identification of the educational practices that showed success in attaining the highest performance level on tests referenced by national norms.  In addition, evidence of Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the prior two years, as well as a Foreign Language program in grades 7 & 8 was required.

Schools may apply again five years after receiving their designation.  Therefore, we understand that this is just the beginning and our goal to remain in the top 15% of schools in our nation means constantly choosing the best teachers who employ best practices while challenging their students to their fullest potential. Mary, Mother of the Redeemer School is committed to being a model of excellence in the spiritual and academic education of our students now and long into the future
