D.A.R.E Officer Reape

Hello and thank you for checking out the DARE web page!  My name is Jim Reape and I will be your childs DARE Instructor.  I have been an Officer with the Montgomery Township Police Department since 1992.  In 1998 I was reassigned to the Detective Division where I am currently assigned.  I specialize within the detective unit in Juvenile matters.

I have been instructing the DARE curriculum since 1994.  I have found the program to be very effective in reducing the barriers sometimes created between young adults and police.  Commonly the DARE program is perceived to be another “Just say no to drugs” program.  That could not be further from the truth.  While the refusal to use drugs is a large portion of the curriculum, other areas of focus include decision making skills, creating a high self esteem and handling peer pressure just to name a few.

My expectation is that all the students entering this program will know that drugs are “wrong.”  However through my experience as a police officer I can clearly attest that many young people today do not have the confidence within themselves to stand up and do what is “right.”  They will be taught that their first offer of marijuana, alcohol or cigarettes will not be from a stranger or a man standing on the corner.  It will be from their best friend, brother or sister.  Will they be ready to stand up and say No… My goal for this program is to prepare them for that day.
