international day of prayer and awarness against human trafficing (Feb 8)
The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and the International Union of Superiors General has designated February 8 as an Annual Day of Prayer and Awareness Against Human Trafficking. On this day, Catholics all over the world are encouraged to create greater awareness about this phenomenon.February 8 is the feast day of St. Josephine Bakhita, who was kidnapped as a child and sold into slavery in Sudan and Italy. Once Josephine was freed, she became a Canossian nun and dedicated her life to sharing her testament of deliverance from slavery and comforting the poor and suffering. She was declared a Saint in 2000. The Catholic Social Teaching Committee invites you to visit https://mmredeemer.org/catholic-social-teaching to learn about and reflect on the experiences of those that have suffered through this affront to human dignity and to pray to comfort, strengthen, and help empower survivors.
St. Josephine Bakhita, you were sold into slavery as a child and endured untold hardship and suffering.
Once liberated from your physical enslavement,
you found true redemption in your encounter with Christ and his Church.
O St. Bakhita, assist all those who are trapped in a state of slavery;
Intercede with God on their behalf so that they will be released from their chains of captivity.
Those whom man enslaves, let God set free.
Provide comfort to survivors of slavery and let them look to you as an example of hope and faith.
Help all survivors find healing from their wounds.
We ask for your prayers and intercessions for those enslaved among us.
Amen.

How can we experience the richness of our faith?
How can we experience the richness of our faith? One way is to understand the seven themes of modern Catholic Social Teachings and the values that encompass them. Whether you make casseroles for a homeless shelter, raise money for clean drinking water, or offer loving counsel to a woman with an unplanned pregnancy, the basis of each action is the same—the dignity of the human person.
“Every human being is created in the image of God and redeemed by Jesus Christ, and therefore is invaluable and worthy of respect as a member of the human family. Every person, from the moment of conception to natural death, has inherent dignity and a right to life consistent with that dignity.” (US Conference of Catholic Bishops)
We would like to propose a Catholic Social Teaching Committee for our parish. Monthly meetings to include discussions, presentations, and other activities related to the seven themes of Catholic Social Teachings will help us live the Word in Matthew 25:40 - “Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me."
If you are being called to get involved, please contact JoAnne Higgins at joannehigg115@gmail.com.
